I have been busy as a bee lately…. blame the economy, blame the THREE jobs i have (yes – i work THREE job to keep the cash flow positive), blame the week vacation I just took to go rock climbing in Kentucky with my friend Jennifer. It all boils down to negative free time.
I’m dedicating this post to my new found hatred for a company called FundingUniverse.com. In desperation I went to this website about two months ago in my effort to secure financing. Well, two months and $199 later I am no better off. In fact, I am worse off in a BIG WAY. They lured me in to their trap claiming they could get me a loan, or at least a line of credit since my credit score is superior. Well, after signing a contract (bad idea) the then dropped the bomb on me that I could only get credit cards since my business is less than two years old. The went ahead and applied for a credit card for me – even though I had NO INTEREST in credit cards (i already have two for my business). Why would i pay 9% for them to get me a credit card when I can get them myself? So I cancelled their application and have dropped the whole thing.
The problem comes in that they haven’t dropped it. Even though I never officially applied for the card they still claim that I owe them $1,500 based on some wording in the contract. I’m so frazzled by this that I am seriously considering filing a lawsuit. I should have never hired them…. sounded too good to be true and it was!
The moral of the story is STAY AWAY FROM FUNDINGUNIVERSE.COM and similar instutitions. NO good.
I’m proud to say that I had an SEO breakthrough today that I will never forget. It was about 4:30pm and I got a call from an unrecognized number. I decided to answer anyways, and I was glad I did! It was a very enthusiastic financial advisor named Tom Canale who wanted to connect with me regarding recruiting and job search because……. drum roll……… he googled a key phrase that had to do with resumes and Webume (my business) came up first!
OH BLESS SEO BLESS IT! I SHALL REMEMBER THE DAY FOREVER!
Of course there really wasn’t much I could offer him as my business is currently under construction. But still, it was great to get the call and even better to know that google is on my side (for now.) At least I got another linkedin connection out of it.
That was one welcomed cold call!

Heaven knows why, but I wound up going to bed at 3:30am last night even though I wasn’t working on anything extremely urgent for the next day and I was dead tired starting at 10pm due to being at the OnRec expo for the past few days. Why do I do this? I sit down at the computer and start banging away, discovering the wonderful internet world and making new connections and I totally lose track of time. I must say thought that I did get alot accomplished from 9pm to 3:30am, including starting a blog (this one), applying for funding, reaching out to a bunch people and building my internet presence! The wee ours are very efficient hours.
For my personal sanity though I need to regulate my hours. I would like to live my life during ‘normal’ times without being sleep deprived as I have been the past few months. I’ll brainstorm ideas for how to do this and post them at random. If anyone has ideas for me on how to regulate my hours (without stiffeling work output) i’d love to hear them!

Hello everyone! I had a brilliant idea tonight that I’m now executing. The idea had to do with how amazing the last four months have been for me as I’ve begun my new business. I’ve never felt so fulfilled in my professional life as I feel now as an entrepreneur. It is a thrilling ride… full of MAJOR ups and COLLOSAL downs, but I’m betting that at the end it will be a net positive experience. Let’s hope so.
One of the things that I’ve realized over the past few months is how few young people are entrepreneurs, and in particular how few young women. I find that I’m often the only young female in a room of founders, and I don’t understand why. I realize that starting a business can be intimidating, but all it takes is a good idea, common sense and conviction. I thought that perhaps if I share my story while I’m living it, it would help ease some people’s fears about failure, and convince more people to jump off the shores of status-quo, into the big and wonderful world of entrepreneurship.
I hope you enjoy my stories and insights during my venture. I’d enjoy any and all comments, suggestions or leads!
That’s all for tonight. I’ll explain my business another time. Cheers & goodnight.
